MORE... Qantas Class Configeration

On Tuesday 26th May 2009, QF boss Gurney spoke more about the axing of First Class on certain QF international flights, suggesting travel was strong in Economy class, however sales on premium seating has suffered at the hands of the global downturn (or words to that affect)

So, thinking about it, the newly released Premium Economy seats on some flights are probably occupied by those who once upon a time sat in Business Class and those who used to book First Class, are now booking Business Class. Likely?

I'm guessing Qantas (in fact, many airlines) are considering going back to the old 2-Class system - Business/Economy, offering a premium economy product for when a business traveller's company policy states he or she may only occupy an economy seat on international flights.

Let's look at the classes as they were: First/Business/Premium Economy/Economy

Now, let's look at what's being proposed: Business Class, Premium Economy Class, Exit Row - premium seating, and Economy Class. That is; until competition forces them to up the service in Business Class (aligning it closer to what we knew as First), bringing Premium Economy closer to what we know as Business Class today. Confused?

All is not lost. First Class seats (in the nose) will remain as is, with a Business Class service. Will that then become Premium Business Class? According to QF, NO. Lucky Business Class passengers will occupy the former First Class seats.

However leaving the seats 'as is' may mean QF can quickly revert back offering a First Class service again, when demand is there.
